Artificial Intellenglish:Teaching L2 Writing in the Age of AI
Workshop Introduction:
We know our students are more intelligent and creative than any chatbot, as chatbots cannot think in any real way and can only regurgitate others’ words and ideas (and that not even reliably). And yet our students are extremely tempted to hand the real work of writing, thinking, and learning over to AI, either because they trust it more than themselves, because it seems easier, or both. But true learning requires productive struggle, and the power which writing well in English grants students—to discover and articulate the complex and original ideas they might think—is at the heart of learning and of academic and professional success. In this workshop, we will discuss ways that AI can foster overreliance and “cognitive offloading,” thus undermining students’ learning, and we will practice ways we can give students the tools to use AI intelligently to enhance their writing and keep their learning—and their voices—their own. (Participants should bring a computer with ready access to the chatbot of their choice.)

Task-Based Language Teaching in the Age of AI: Designing meaningful language tasks with digital tools
Workshop Introduction:
This workshop aims to implement Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) principles and explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can potentially support the design of meaningful tasks that foster communication. Well-designed tasks promote authentic language use, meaning negotiation, and interaction among L2 learners (Brandl 2008; Ellis, 2009, 2017; Long, 2015; Skehan, 2014). This session will present key principles and theoretical underpinning for TBLT and will dedicate a significant amount of time to a guided practical hands-on component. Workshop participants will also consider emerging perspectives on AI usage in language education and will engage in activities to generate tasks, scenarios and other teaching materials (Warschauer and Xu, 2024; Chapelle 2025; Lee 2025). We aim to emphasize critical evaluation of AI-generated content and seek to promote technology usage that aligns with pedagogically sound goals to support meaningful task-based language learning.

Tools Change Every Year. I Don't. — An AI Survival Guide for Educators
Workshop Introduction:
Last year someone told you to learn DeepSeek. This year it's OpenClaw. You just got comfortable with one, and the next one is already here. If this sounds familiar, this workshop was designed for you. Three hours. Three skills. Find: We hand you an AI tool you've never seen before. No tutorial — just a 7-question card. In twenty minutes, you figure out on your own whether it's worth your time. Use: One prompt structure that works across platforms. We test it live on three different AI tools, same structure, all three work. Build: You create a small tool that solves one of your actual teaching problems. No coding, just plain language. It goes on your phone, and you walk out with it. You leave with three things in hand: a 7-question card for evaluating any new tool, a prompt template you've tested on three platforms, and a working tool you built yourself. Next time a new platform goes viral, you won't need to chase it. You'll have your own framework
